In the former GDR the scientific investigations in leisure, tourism and recreation regarding geographical aspects were focussed in Greifswald (Geographical Institute) and those regarding economic problems were carried out in Dresden (Faculty of Traffics). Research into cultural aspects had their home in Berlin. Dr. Heike Bähre summed this up in her excellent dissertation of 2003 "Tourismuspolitik in der Systemtransformation".
From the opening speach of the IGU Conference, the meeting of the International Geographic Society, 20th June 2004 at Greifswald University.
The four-day conference was presented under the title "Recent Trends in Tourism - the Baltic and the World". |
